Standards
Editorial policy
The standards every article on this site is held to, and what you can do if we get something wrong.
Editorial independence
Our editorial team decides what to cover and what to conclude. Advertisers and affiliate partners do not review, approve or influence articles before publication. Vendors cannot pay for coverage, placement in a list or a more favorable conclusion.
Accuracy and sourcing
- Factual claims about products are checked against primary sources, which we cite.
- Prices are attributed to a date and a source, and we never invent prices that vendors don't publish.
- We clearly distinguish documentation-based research from hands-on testing.
- Examples that use hypothetical numbers are labeled as hypothetical.
Separating editorial content from advertising
Advertisements are labeled "Advertisement" and visually separated from articles. We do not place ads in ways designed to be mistaken for content or navigation, or to cause accidental clicks. Affiliate links are disclosed on the page where they appear; see our affiliate disclosure.
Conflicts of interest
Contributors must disclose any financial or personal relationship with a company they write about. Where a relationship exists, we either disclose it in the article or assign the article to someone else.
Free trials and vendor access
We may use free trials or vendor-provided test accounts to research software. Receiving access does not oblige us to cover a product or to write about it favorably, and we disclose when access was provided by the vendor.
Updates
When we substantially revise an article, we update its "updated" date. Minor fixes such as typos or broken links may be made without changing the date.
Corrections policy
We correct errors of fact promptly. If you believe something we published is wrong, contact us through our contact page with the article URL, the statement in question and, where possible, a source.
When we confirm a factual error, we fix it and, if the error was material (for example, a wrong price, plan limit or legal requirement), add a dated correction note to the article explaining what changed. We do not silently change conclusions.
